Microneedling + PRP
Collagen, a protein found abundantly in your body, gives structure to your skin, muscles, bones, and other connective tissues. As you get older, your body produces less collagen, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles. Fine lines and wrinkles are signs of skin aging. In addition to that, skin aging also includes hyperpigmentation, age spots caused by sun damage, pollution, smoking, genetics, and poor nutrition. The best way to treat your skin is to aim for collagen growth. Matching a good skin care regime with a healthy lifestyle is the best way to slow down signs of aging. With the aesthetics market growing rapidly, there are several invasive and non-invasive treatments to reduce skin concerns and induce the growth of collagen. One of the most popular is microneedling + PRP, the revolutionary method our team at Allergy & Skin Spa stands by.
What is Microneedling + PRP?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive technique to treat scars, wrinkles, and large pores on your skin. It is considered safe for anyone with overall good health. It is not recommended for people who use specific acne medication which Dr. Kia will explain during the consultation. Microneedling uses needles to puncture hundreds of tiny holes in your skin. It involves using a tool called a derma-pen. The derma-pen has tiny needles at the end that make little holes or needle pricks in the top layers of your skin. Derma-rollers are another method of Microneedling. Derma-rollers are similar to derma-pens. It looks like a miniature paint roller with several needles in it, which is rolled in different directions giving you the same effect as the derma-pen.
What Are the Benefits of This Treatment?
The collagen produces plump skin and improves the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, pores, and scars. Microneedling addresses many other skin-related problems such as skin pigmentation, stretch marks, alopecia, loose skin, and rosacea. It also helps rejuvenate the skin. Microneedling can also be used to deposit medication, such as topical tretinoin and vitamin C, deeper into the skin. Another version of microneedling includes injecting the skin with the patient’s platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to supercharge collagen and elastin growth.
The microneedling procedure has two goals:
- Microchannels are created by the holes punctured into your skin by the derma-pen or derma-roller. This allows skin care products such as serums to penetrate and be absorbed into the deeper layers of your skin, giving you more powerful results.
- The tiny pin-pricks caused by the derma-pen act as mini injuries in your body. This pushes the skin into healing mode and stimulates collagen and elastin production.
Before and After Results
How Does Microneedling + PRP Work?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure. Dr. Kia will first explain the procedure before the actual treatment starts. A numbing cream is applied to your skin. A derma-pen or derma roller will be used to gently work around areas of your face to create tiny holes in the outer layer of the skin. Though it sounds painful, it is virtually painless and incredibly effective. The whole process takes less than 30 minutes. You may see redness in the treated area for a couple of days. This will subside as soon as the healing process of your body starts. The result will be glowing supple skin.
